You might like to think you can do whatever you like in your own home, but your neighbours might feel differently. After all, if what you do in the comfort of your humble abode disturbs the surrounding residents, they might have grounds to complain.
But when one man was doing a completely innocent act - enjoying his own pool and hot tub at night, and his neighbour decided to call the police to complain about him, he felt it was the last straw. And now he's looking to get revenge. The man, who remains anonymous, took to forum website Reddit to explain that he lives in an HOA (Homeowners Association), which is a private organisation in the US which manages a residential community.
This means the HOA enforce the rules, collect fees and handle the upkeep for the area. And although he likes his neighbour's husband, who he described as a "cool dude", he said the wife is a "nightmare". In a recent post to the website, he added: "She used to be president of the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) until everyone voted her off because nobody liked her — and now she’s decided to make me her personal project."

One day the anonymous man said his neighbour "literally called the police on me for being in my own pool and hot tub at night". He added: "Imagine explaining to a cop that you're 'breaking the law' by… relaxing on your own property."
The post continued: "Anyway, since she already treats me like the villain of her story, I figured I might as well have some fun with it. The catch is, I don’t want to rack up HOA fines or give her any real ammo. I want the kind of petty revenge that makes her mad but keeps me in the clear."
He then went on to ask for petty revenge ideas which would be "funny or confusing enough that she can't complain without sounding ridiculous". He added: "I'm talking: decorations, habits, or things I can do 100% within the rules that will still drive her up the wall."
Fellow forum-users came up with their own suggestions of how to get his own back at the neighbour. "Get a mini trampoline and randomly pop up in front of their windows," suggested one person.
Another commented: "Bring out a measuring tape and take various measurements, writing down the numbers. Let her wonder what you could be planning." And a third said: "Neighbour is clearly bugged by you using your pool and hot tub at night. Keep using them at night."
